The opening of the Raised Beds event was a great experience with over 200 people attending and sampling the college-supplied wine. It was fascinating to see the work together for the first time and the feedback was fantastic. I think the public saw an interesting comparison with the Gilman work next door and many found the student art more accessible but also it was clear that our work had a lot of personal depth to it.
Curating the exhibition was equally enlightening as talking to visitors and gallery staff revealed many connections and insights into the Nottingham art community. It was surprising how many visitors were fellow artists but also had taken an Access course in later life to get their foot in the door of the art world.
