Visiting Nottingham Contemporary to see Sarah Cunningham and Julia Isídrez’s exhibitions gave me a chance to reflect on my own artistic practice. Cunningham’s paintings encouraged me to consider the relationship between imagination, nature and atmosphere, while Isídrez’s clay sculptures highlighted the importance of material, process and cultural identity. I was particularly interested in how both artists create distinctive worlds through their chosen materials and approaches. The visit has encouraged me to think more deeply about how I communicate ideas through my own work and how experimentation with materials can help develop meaning and personal expression.
