PHOTOGRAPHY

I’ve been a photographer since a Pentax ME Super landed in my hands in 1982. Cameras have changed beyond all recognition and photography has become a ubiquitous casual affair but an image can capture a fleeting moment that then inspires further investigation like nothing else. I’m motivated by the work of French cultural theorist Roland Barthes who talked of the ‘punctum’ of a photograph as being that “sensory, intensely subjective effect of a photograph on the viewer”. It is this ability of a photograph to pierce the soul like nothing else that keeps me going out in the world with my camera in hand.
