The COVID pandemic has taught us so many things about the true nature of humankind; we can be the most caring species in very challenging circumstances but we can equally shut down our libertarian minds and borders to the desperate needs of others. The past two years have thrown a continuous barrage of hope and despair at us and we’ve had to tease apart self-centred lies from science-based reality. I have mixed feelings about our future – we have the potential to make monumental leaps forward for the common good but parts of society seek to drag us down with their insidious self-interest. A war on our emotions has been waged and in most cases, I hope, lost. Good has to prevail but we must never again disrespect the unstoppable power of nature.
