Yet another splendid exhibition at Djanogly gallery showing the work of Penny McCarthy, Jim Lovell and Emma Kay in an exhibition of drawing entitled Drawn through time. I enjoyed the exploration of reverie that occurs when we draw, which seems a lost state of mind in today’s world. When was the last time you daydreamed and got lost in a pleasant state of consiousness that was divorced from your immediate surroundings? Like you probably, it’s more difficult to distract myself from that state, but when we attain it we are reminded it’s one of those unique human characteristics that we need to cling on to.
The World from Memory by Emma Kay stood out. Kay creates work from memory, questionning how our internal view of the world around us differs from reality. I loved how her knowledge of Europe was very impressive, but that of Australia less so. A very interesting commentary on the limits of the human mind. All in all this exhibition is well worth a visit.
