Abstracting the natural world

For my final set of emulsion prints for Wirksworth Festival this year I was looking for something a little more abstract than the existing set. Much as I’ve enjoyed slightly manipulating my own photographs in terms of colour and perspective it was now time to push things a little further.

So in the triptych below I’ve used three photographs I took on a very early morning bike ride through the Yorkshire Wolds, colourised them slightly but then overlaid them with increasing levels of digital pixels. The colours of the pixels are taken from the underlying images.

I really like the result as it gives a sense of the ongoing masking over of the natural world by encroaching digitisation and this has opened up many more ideas for exploration.
